Accreditation Authority and Requirements
During the 79th Texas Legislature, Third Called Session (2006), House Bill 1 (HB 1) updated state law to establish the foundation for the current accreditation framework used today. These changes:
- Defined how accreditation statuses are assigned
- Established how sanctions and interventions apply to districts, charter schools, and campuses
- Allowed for review of certain sanctions by the State Office of Administrative Hearings
Because this legislation significantly changed how accreditation is determined and reported, information prior to 2007 may not be available in the same format or directly comparable to current accreditation statuses.
麻豆原创 implemented these requirements through commissioner鈥檚 rules in Title 19 TAC Chapter 97, Subchapter EE. These rules:
- Define the accreditation statuses (Accredited, Accredited-Warned, Accredited-Probation, Not Accredited-Revoked)
- Describe how statuses are determined and assigned
- Establish the standards, sanctions, definitions, and oversight actions associated with each status
Note: An accreditation status may be withheld pending final data necessary for the completion of a status assignment per 19 TAC 搂97.1055(a)(5)-(6). A district whose current accreditation status assignment is pending retains the accreditation status assigned for the previous school year (19 TAC 搂97.1055(a)(4)).
